Practical ideas for home and nursery

Our home and nursery settling plan

By Aqsa · Early Years Leader

Updated

One shared plan for a familiar welcome and a clearer goodbye.

Complete this together with your child’s key person. Keep the plan with you and the nursery; this page does not collect your answers. Use your nursery’s secure arrangements for any private or medical information.

  1. Our familiar welcome

Who will welcome the child? Who can help if that person is unavailable?

  2. Our goodbye

Agree a short phrase and ritual that fit this child.

  3. Comfort and connection

What helps the child accept comfort? Which familiar item or activity is appropriate and safe here?

  4. The session and our update

Agree the session, collection arrangement and when or how the setting will update the parent.

  5. What we will notice

Comfort, play, communication, eating, drinking and rest: what did we observe?

  6. Our review

When will we talk again? What will stay familiar and what might need adjusting?

Read the nursery settling guide for examples. There is no single deadline for settling; review the support around the child.
